Discovery Late Joiner Penalties
Hi, my mum has had uninterrupted medical aid cover for over 14 year from 2007 with Bonitas medical aid. She was not charged a 50% premium when she joined in 2007, she had to wait a period of 6 months if I recall before she could enjoy cover. We are trying to take out a better cover with Discovery now and she is being charged a penalty of up to 50% because my mum did not have cover from the age of 35. I find this ********* and discriminatory. How can a company justify this and what’s worse is support it, in essence it says that they subscribe to ********* and discriminatory behavior. In my opinion, a matter like this is worthy of being taken up to the constitutional court. I would like to challenge Discovery and Adrian Gore in person to not only respond explaining how Discovery can justify subscription to such ideologies. Put very simply Adrian, if a person who could not afford medical aid but now that they can decides to take out cover must be penalized because of their inability to historically afford to do so. How do you sleep at night knowing this and support it?
