Discovery KeyCare Plus switch to Essential Saver.

I have been a Discovery customer for as long as I can remember, first with my parents when I was still in school and then on my own when I started University and started working.

On 3rd of November 2016 my partner and I discovered that we are expecting our first born. In a panic we both worried and about our medical aid seeing that he was also on Discovery KeyCare Plus the same scheme i was on. We decided that i would go onto his medical aid and to move to beter a scheme, to be covered at any private hospital. He moved in moved end of November to the Essential Save plan on Discovery where we where I was adviced not to go onto his plan until January.

January came and I gave notice that I am canceling my medical aid at the end of January to be coverd on the first of February on his medical aid. All of the consultants we talked to never mentioned that beacause I am on a lower scheme than he is now and it would be considered an upgrade to my scheme and that a person can only upgrade in November month. This means that my partner should down-grade to KeyCare Plus again for me to go onto his medical aid and still receive the same benefits I would have received had I just stayed on my own medical aid.

Keeping in mind that we paid all Gynecologist appointments and all the blood tests out of our pocket and not claiming it back to insure that my labor would be included at my current private hospital on his medical aid. So now three months before our little one is expected we have to change from our planned hospital which is 3km away from our home to a different hospital that is almost 20km far away and I also need to change my gynecologist because she does not fall into the KeyCare plan.

This only because it as seen as an upgrade to my current or previous scheme plan. I have always been a big Discovery health fan and would have recommended them in a blink of an eye but this whole ordeal left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and made a time that should have been filled with excitement and joy one that is filled with dread, anxiety and too many questions that have poor excuses.

I would like to know why can't I go onto my partners medical aid, when through the whole proses with all the paperwork and my information they had to only tell me now that it would count as an upgrade?

I would like this situation sorted out so that we can enjoy our last three and to enjoy the labor plans we intended to follow at our hospital of choice witb our current gynecologist.

Warm regards

Andruska
