Discovery is gaslighting medically needed breast reduction surgery instead they are classifying it as cosmetic even though they receive proof from doctors and patients, the mete fact that a surgeon is being blamed for not writing a comprehensive report as
Women should boycott Discovery Medical Aid
Women’s pain is being dismissed — and it must stop.
Discovery Medical Aid continues to deny medically necessary breast reduction surgery, even when women present with documented gigantomastia, chronic spinal pain, nerve compression, shoulder damage, and functional impairment.
Instead, women are told to: Take painkillers Stay on long-term medication “Manage” the pain and continue living with it
This is not treatment. This is medical gaslighting.
Excessive breast weight causes real, structural damage to the body. No amount of tablets or physiotherapy can remove the cause — yet Discovery chooses delay over definitive care.
Women are being forced to suffer longer, deteriorate further, and medicate indefinitely — simply because their condition is labelled as “cosmetic”.
Women’s health is not optional. Pain is not cosmetic. Endurance is not a treatment plan.
Until Discovery recognises and funds medically indicated breast reduction surgery, women have every reason to withdraw their support and demand better.
Enough is enough.

I even asked for a discovery doctor to physically examine me and I was told youll dont do that.
I want this resolved and I want this surgery covered by discovery medical aid.

I have sent through the revised doctor's motivation, as well as the dispute form and supporting documents. The correspondence was sent to the benefits authorisations department, the clinical review team and the disputes department. I received an automated response immediately, one saying i will hear back in 48hrs, another saying 30 days and another saying they are working on it, and thereafter I have heard absolutely nothing. Each time I check for an update on the medical aid application, it shows there is no update. When I request feedback from the chat bot its shows that it cant access the system or that it is offline.
I understand there is a process however I have been in communication with your team since November regarding this medical issue. How long does your review team take?

You have given me an automated response on email yet again.
This has never been a cosmetic request.
I have documented diagnoses of sacroiliac mechanical inflammation, rotator cuff syndrome, chronic back and nerve pain, with daily functional impairment and failure of conservative treatment. These have been fully supported by medical reports submitted to Discovery as well as youll having full view and access to my medical history.
The refusal relies solely on classifying the procedure under ICD-10 N62 and a General Scheme Exclusion, without addressing that the recommended bilateral breast reduction is a the****utic, function-restoring intervention to treat these conditions.
Discovery you are charging clients and failing them when it comes to delivering necessary hospital care.
