Discovery in line with Eskom. Benefits shrink by 40% compared to premiums over 3 years.
This review is on Discovery Medical chronic illness cover. The cover for chronic medication has been R200 for the last two years and are now reduced to R170 for 2020. This means that for 2018 the cover was 18% more than what it is in 2020, at the same time premiums has increased by more than 20% over the same period. One can calculate that compared to the Discovery's premiums, their chronicle cover has decreased by 40% over three years. With rising medical costs, this is some indication of what Discovery think about their member's needs. I suggest anyone considering a medical aid that cares about the welfare of their members, Discovery is not for you as they have proven before they are only seeking profit.

10 Sept 2019, 11:55Just for further reference, the above review refers to Hypertension and Coveram as treatment.
Discovery's solution is that to find cheaper medication, R240/month apparently is extreme even though they were happy to cover it in the past.
Why does one need to change something that worked for several years, and what will medical bills be and who covers the risk to change the medication and revisiting specialists until one find something else that works as well.
I guess Discovery's attitude it that it is not their problem, at least they get to keep another R50 of my R7,000/ month premium.
Well done Discovery, see if you can last for years to come with this attitude towards members.

12 Sept 2019, 16:15Dear Discovery. Thank you for your email explaining that the Discovery Health Rare for medication has decreased accordingly. Did discovery not had any control over the Discovery Health Rate for medicine?
You also send me a form for my physician to complete whereby he can motivate why Discovery should pay for this medication as in the past, and only if you Discovery except t his motivation will they pay again as in the past.
Discovery failed to mention that I’d have to pay the physician R1,300 for my medical so that Discovery will pay the extra R360 over the next year. Even if discovery pays the full medicine rate you did 2 years ago by default, you will pay an additional R1,200 as you should have in the 1st place and I will break even.
If you reject the motivation I will need two or three more visits to the specialist to try different medications until finding something that works. My total cost will be around R4,900 for doters fees and Discovery will save their R360 for the year.
Why don't Discovery just pay what they did as before, with some inflation?
