Discovery Health - will only pay for a drug I have had a documented adverse reaction to

Discovery Health has, over the many years I have been a member, been fairly good in their support of my medical needs. Broken collarbone to name one.

However, their unwillingness to cover the cost of a chronic medicine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder is really testing my patience and eroding all the goodwill we've built up over the years.

Discovery will only pay for the generic Dopaquel (Dr Reddy's), not the original drug Seroquel (Astra Zeneca) or their generic Truvalin. Unfortunately, when I took Dopaquel (for three months) I had an adverse drug reaction. I detailed my reaction in letters to my psychiatrist, the Medicines Control Council, the manufacturers (Dr Reddy's), and to Discovery.

Despite knowing my experience with Dopaquel, Discovery will only cover the cost of the generic Dopaquel which is about a quarter of the price of the original drug Seroquel (Astra Zeneca) or the Astra Zeneca generic Truvalin. I cannot afford the shortfall.

So there remains the question...how do Discovery Health propose to deal with the health consequences of me taking a generic that I have an adverse drug reaction to as a result of being limited to their listed medicine Dopaquel?
