Discovery Health simply DOES NOT CARE

I have been a member of Discovery Health since 2015, I requested to change my plan in November 2017, and they refused, so I left. I went back onto Discovery Health in March 2018, as I cannot stay without cover, especially coz I have a 13 month daughter. Discovery stated that cover starts in April. They explained what my plan is all about, benefits etc. and I was happy.

Until my daughter needed medical attention. She developed a lump on her thigh, we thought it was a boil, so we waited for a while. This lump grew large and fast. Rushed her to the Dr, who immediately referred her to a specialist. They instantly suspected it could be cancerous. We were shocked and scared. The specialists needed tests run immediately so they can help my daughter. Discovery Health blatantly refused to authorize any of the procedures required by Drs.

An emergency biopsy and MRI was done on the 12th April 2018, Discovery still hasn’t not given authorization for that procedure. Drs report stated that the mass on my daughter’s needed to be removed IMMEDIATELY, that this is a huge URGENCY because this mass is still growing. And the manner in which it is growing, it is pressing against her thigh muscles, and will hinder the growth and development of her thigh muscles. Dr sent through the request to Discovery Health on Monday the 16th April 2018 for surgery on the 19th April 2018. Everything they requested, documentation, pictures, reports, statements, it was all handed over to them. However they still haven’t reached a decision or given authorization.

Discovery Health doesn’t care one bit about my daughter and her wellbeing. All they care about is their money. They don’t care one bit that this mass developing in my daughter thigh is causing damage, that it is affecting her ability to walk. This is a 13 month old baby we are talking about, she’s only started walking at 11 months. And now they want to take away that ability.

I have tried all means of communicating with Discovery Health, but no one is willing to help us. All they tell us is “it is still being reviewed”. How long are you willing to wait? How big do you want this lump to be? How much damage do you want to see before you make a decision? Are you seriously gambling with my daughter’s life and health?
