Discovery Health reneging on payment obilgations for in-hospital stay for my severely sick 1 year old son
On 2 November 2019, my son was admitted to Mediclinic Oranjezicht Hospital pediatric emergency ward in Cape Town because of severe diaharea and fever which turned out to be because he had contracted the adenovirus and was an EMERGENCY CASE.
The doctor/ paediatrician on call attended to our son on that day as well as throughout my son Matteo's treatment until he was discharged on 11 November 2019.
Now Discovery Health is not paying the pediatrician's account as they are saying the Member (i.e. myself) voluntarily used a "non-designated service provider" and according to my plan (Delta Essential Saver), only provides cover for the first 24 hours.
However, I didn't voluntarily choose the paediatrician who attended to my son!! It was an emergency and the attending doctor tended to my son and continued to do so during my son's stay IN HOSPITAL - this was not my choice but the hospital's process as he was the doctor on call during that time! I need this account with Capepaeds cleared asap as it has been 4 months, otherwise I will be moving my entire family off of Discovery Health - this is ridiculous and my son should not be denied treatment reimbur*****t because Discovery want to wangle their way out of their obligation to cover patients for in-hospital stays!
