Discovery Health / Medical **** - ******* business practices
What an awesome Christmas gift Discovery South Africa & Discovery Rustenburg Square gave my family this year.
My son Ajay (6) was admitted to hospital a week and a half ago with a stomach virus, which because of an unbreakable fever, triggered his first epileptic attack in almost 2 years.
The doctors kept him for observation at Ferncrest for 2 days and he was losing fluids at an alarming rate.
So Discovery phones me today and enquires as to why Ajay was admitted to hospital.
So I inform them of the situation and what has transpired over the last 2.5 years concerning Ajay's medical condition leading up to the attack a week and a half ago.
So I then tell the lady before she can inform me, let me guess, you are not covering his medical expenses.
She then rep**** correct and we are being held liable for the expenses. Also, Discovery is cancelling our medical aid as we apparently ticked a box that said no Brain conditions.
First off, we did not tick any boxes. The forms were printed out for us as we worked through Discovery Rustenburg Square and after about a month of meetings and consultations we finally got the documentation to sign in July this year.
Now I am treated like I tried to **** Discovery, by ommitting that my son has epilepsy, but how many times must we inform a Discovery Broker that our son has epilepsy? How many time must we ask the broker DOES THIS MEDICAL AID COVER HIS EPILEPSY?
If we ticked a wrong box, why did your brokers not advise us of this matter, before the forms were submitted?
But no, it is easier to blame your paying customers and treat them like ********* than look into the matter objectively and instead of trying to assist us or acertain the truth, they just point blank cancel our cover.
Now Ajay was diagnosed with epilepsy when we were still on a different plan at Discovery on my wife Estelouize Smit's name and records will show that he has gone for many treatments pertaining to his medical condition as well as hospital visits pertaining to his condition.
I then enquire as to why they do not look at the records pertaining to his treatment and medical diagnosis from our previous medical aid with Discovery and I was told that it doesn't matter as we did not tick a box for Brain conditions.
Now his epilepsy condition was mentioned in the forms plenty of times, we also informed the broker plenty of times of his condition and we insisted on a plan that would cover his medical condition.
So moral of the story.
The life of a 6-year-old boy means nothing compared to the profit they make from saps like us who trust the professionals we hire to deal with medical aid, insurance, policies, etc.
Also Estie, my wife is pregnant, do you think any medical aid will take us on when she is already pregnant? I guess I should start preparing to have my child ****ed by a state-run hospital or turn to a life of crime to be able to support the inevitable medical costs involved in having my future child delivered in a private hospital.
This issue needs to be resolved ASAP between yourself and the Rustenburg Square branch. If I incur any costs regarding this mistake, you will be talking to my lawyers after I have lodged this complaint with any and all Ombudsman groups, lobby groups, consumer protection agencies, etc.
Thank you Discovery for f&@$ing up my festive season and financially ruining my family for 2020!
