Discovery Health Insurance - We are there for you, until you need us!!!

My wife and son has been in a car accident last year November 2018 and they had to be rushed to the hospital where they were checked in at the emergency unit at Groenkloof Life hospital.

There they had to be checked by the doctor and was then send to X-rays as they were afraid that there might have been internal bleeding or damage. This was relayed to me by the staff that it will definitely be covered by my medical aid of which we specified the plan to them. I just had to pay an admin fee of R400.

With the above explained, I received an mail from Discoveries claims department saying that they are not paying a cent of the claims from the hospital. This came as quite a surprise as this was an emergency and I would have thought that is why people generally have medical aid, so that they are covered when they do not have money for unexpected expenses such as these.

I did not except this as we have tried to follow the correct procedures giving the time we had and unfortunately could not get approval first, as it was an emergency. I understand that my day to day benefits are exhausted but surely this forms part of my hospital plan as it was an in hospital procedure and examination.

After approaching a business consultant for Discovery, he eventually came back to me after 4 months of waiting and following up with him just to tell me that I must suck it up and pay, as Discover is not going to!

What is contradicting is that they paid for the ambulance ride, but refuse to pay the hospital. I am not happy with Discovery and will definately be taking my business elsewhere as there is no use having medical aid if they are not going to assist you when you need it.
