Discovery Health - How we can endanger your health

I was a long-time member on the Discovery Health medical scheme. I used their services without any problems for years and years, only to encounter a big flaw now. If you are on certain plans, and you need to undergo a planned surgery, you have to use a daycare clinic/ Hospital approved on the Discovery network. That's all good and I was doing this without a problem. I stay in Vanderbijlpark and I usually used Midvaal Hospital or Emfuleni Mediclinic for all surgeries, etc for my family as most of the specialists will only use those, by requirement of my medical plan. Suddenly this year, starting on 1 Feb'19 as I was told, the daycare clinic/hospital I needed to use is in Sebokeng, bringing forward all kinds of problems. Some of which is that now my wife needs to transport me through a high-risk hi-jack zone where violent protests take place on a regular basis. The traffic lights on the road to this clinic became stop streets due the protesters continuingly damaging/breaking them. I can not travel by myself due to receiving anesthetics and only risk harm to myself, but I have to put my Wife's life in danger as well. Another issue is that the approved specialist I consulted does not do surgery there and I now need to find another. I did call Discovery to find out what was this new change I have no knowledge about, and was told that an e-mail was sent to all members. I have no knowledge of receiving such an e-mail, might have even gone into my junk folder, I don't know. I logged onto my profile with Discovery, where my plan information wasn't even updated yet and Midvaal Hospital was still stated as an approved daycare clinic on my current plan. I would have expected that such a critical change would ratify a personal notification at least to all affected members to take note of to course correct well ahead of time, as you can't change plans in February. To eliminate any disastrous set-backs, call Discovery health and ask what daycare clinic you are approved for on your plan. Great job discovery! Great way of looking out for your clients' well-being...or is this to create more business opportunities...
