Discovery Health Honestly I would always say without a doubt they are the best, I cannot say that anymore.

I have been a Discovery Health client my entire life, 40 years (I'm old AF) I have never had any reason to complain, they have been literally life savers and I would never stress about anything Medical related. That is until 2026, things got sus. Things have changed, my plan is based on my income, so they doubled my income bracket meaning I pay double monthly more than I should, it's been four months, and a simple verification process has become a nightmare. And I would tell them to shove it, but they have a years worth of Medical cover money as ransom, that I can't get back unless I play ball. And common sense says if they will do this for money, will they really be there in a medical emergency?

Reviewer Update
To the Discovery Health Disputes/Member Services Team,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the handling of my income verification and the subsequent over-collection of premiums for my KeyCare Plus plan over the last three months.
While I acknowledge the requirement for income verification, I am deeply dissatisfied with the lack of transparency, the premature implementation of changes, and the arduous nature of the resolution process.
I wish to bring the following timeline and facts to your attention:
  • Premature Implementation: On 17 November 2025, I received official correspondence regarding the need to verify my income. However, despite the ongoing nature of this matter, Discovery began implementing premium changes on 5 March 2026—significantly earlier than was originally communicated.
  • Excessive Deductions: For the months of March, April, and May, Discovery has deducted R4,000 from my R7,000 salary. This constitutes more than 50% of my total income.
  • Procedural Failure: My income has not changed. Discovery unilaterally moved me into a different income bracket and has placed the entire administrative and financial burden on me to "prove" my status. This process has proven to be neither free nor transparent, and it appears designed to be financially beneficial to the company at the expense of the consumer.
My Required Resolution:
  1. Immediate Reinstatement: I demand that my profile be returned to the correct income bracket immediately upon receipt of the final verification documents I have provided.
  2. Full Refund: I require a full refund of the excess premiums collected (the difference between my standard premium and the R4,000 deducted) for the past three months, to be paid into my account within 7 business days.
  3. Formal Acknowledgment: I require a written explanation as to why these changes were implemented ahead of the communicated schedule and why the verification process is intentionally structured to be so inaccessible to members.
The current process is an unreasonable administrative barrier that has caused me significant financial distress. I have been patient for three months; however, if this is not resolved and the over-collected funds are not returned immediately, I will be forced to escalate this matter to the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS). I look forward to your urgent response and a confirmation of the refund. Regards,Schalk
