Discovery Health Exorbitant Self-Payment Gap 2022
Hi All, Has anyone else had a shock with their Discovery Health self-payment gap this year in particular? Mine has literally doubled since last year and I've conducted my medical aid in the same way as for the past 20+ years. You can see where your self-payment gap is sitting on their website or by calling them.

21 Jul 2022, 12:49Good Day
Thank you for getting in touch, Discovery, but as you know, you have not been able to answer my questions. In fact, you will only be able to answer them on Monday, after trying to figure out what has gone wrong with my self payment gap.
It is a shame that it took a Hellopeter comment to speak to someone that could actually assist immediately (requesting immediate help telephonically got me nowhere).
Various claims, since they are in hospital claims, should not have gone anywhere near my self payment gap transactions, yet many of them increased my self payment gap hugely! As discussed, these need to be removed.
What we have also discovered is that the self payment gap reports that are sent to clients upon request, are not intuitive, and as stated but the consultant I was speaking to, are not user friendly and cannot be understood by a member without the assistance of a consultant/manager on the other end of the phone. So, not only can we not get information on what is occurring with our self payment gap easily ourselves (e.g. by downloading it from the website), but when we do get the report after phoning and waiting two days, we cannot use all the data without "an interpreter". There is much work to be done here, Discovery.
Until we have finished looking into this matter conclusively, it will be best not to post anything that makes it seem as though the matter is resolved. In addition, when everything is resolved, it may be best to post what led to the problems (see my most recent mail) and what the problems were, so that other people can become aware of these issues and hopefully avoid them.
I look forward to hearing from senior management regarding my email.
Best regards
Gloria
