Discovery Health

I pay for medical aid for my family and self separately. l went my GP to get medical certificates for my 2 kids. My claim is not being honoured because l was supposed to access the services virtually. Don't l have a choice on who l want see and how l access services that l am paying for. Why must l be forced to access services virtually. I don't want that. My doctor has been seeing me for the past 8 years and has my medical history. Now why must be consulting some random doctor when l can pop in at my GP. I would like this regularised and my claim processed. I will switch to another health insurance provider including my life policy, and cancel vitality as well. I will tell everyone in my circle about my experience.

I am on Essential Delta Saver. What l discovered is that Discovery has taken away added benefits from this plan. In the past, if your Medical Savings were finished you could still access the GP. Discovery will give you 5 additional visits/ added benefits on which they would allow you to see the GP. However, Discovery claims that this benefit is still available when in actual fact they have removed those 5 additional GP visits and claim to have replaced them with a virtual consultation/ screening via the app Dr Connect for COVID related cases. If you read the fine print on the app it will tell you that if not covid related you are liable. The justification am getting is that they were additional benefits which l find to be absurd. A benefit is a benefit whether its added or not and that is what we were paying for.
