Discovery exploiting the retrenched

I withdrew my membership on 24 March 2020, effective termination 1 April, due to retrenchment. Ref *** I then contacted Discovery on 20 May to reinstate my membership a mere 57 days later. I was told I owed them R5200 for April and May’s contributions when I was not even an active member. This was not voluntary but mandatory, or else I would need to reapply. I chose to reapply today 25 May, at which point I was told there was a 12 month waiting period on not 1 but 2 chronic conditions (I am a 27 year old in excellent health), because I had not been covered for 90 days. I have never had any exclusions on medical aid before. To me this looks like decisive action to intimidate a customer to pay the R5200 or else pay dearly by way of limits on chronic benefits.
