Discovery DOES NOT cover EMERGENCIES! R6500 required before emergency admission even under PMB.

You are NOT covered for any emergenices. Their 'plan details' have clearly been written by a marketing department and is not worth the paper its written on. Just a warning to any one on discovery plans, they claim to cover emergencies and they claim "If you have an emergency, you can go straight to hospital." This is NOT the case. During an emergency, for a life threatening condition for a pregnant woman, covered under the PMB, we were refused admission to the closest private hospital to our home as the hospital was not on the Discovery network. They claim to provide emergency care at any hospital even on Delta plans, they DO NOT. So please make sure whenever you are in a life threatening accident or similar that you do this close to a Delta network hospital, as you will not be allowed admission to a private hospital outside of their network, unless you are conscious and happen to have R6500 available to pay the hospital BEFORE admission. This is not the hospital, this is Discovery. Good luck to anyone who needs life saving treatment outside of their network, you will be send to a state hospital.

Hi Phillip
We’re sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied.
Emergency admissions are allowed at any hospital regardless of the plan you are on, with no co-payment or deductible necessary. DHMS is regulated by the Council for Medical Scheme and acts in line with the regulations set out in the Medical Schemes Act. As per Regulation 7 of the Act, emergency medical condition is defined as - "the sudden and at the time, unexpected onset of a health condition that requires immediate medical or surgical treatment, where failure to provide medical or surgical treatment would result in serious impairment of bodily functions or serious dysfunction of a bodily organ or part, or would place the person's life in serious jeopardy".
