Discovery does not cover emergencies even if you were sent to a hospital

Last night I had to go to the emergency room for chest pain that was shooting up into my arm. This was my first time at the emergency room and up until I got my invoice I thought I was covered for it (because I went to a hospital with 24 hour service). Apparently Discovery does not cover emergencies. I am glad I wasn't having a heart attack but now I'm too scared to react to any pain I feel because it will cost me a few thousand rand due to technicalities of the situation (emergency vs non-emergency). I think this is sick!
