Discovery declining NIPT test
I had a threatened miscarriage at 12 weeks and was hospitalised while on holiday. When we came back from holiday I saw my Dr and he advised that we do the Downs testing. The test came back age and biochemistry 1:100. This then made my Dr worried and he advised that we do the NIPT test. I had specifically asked him if Discovery was going to pay for the test because I know the test is roughly R6500. He agreed that Discovery will pay. Only then had I agreed to get the NIPT test done.
If I was made aware of the fact that I was liable for over R7000 worth of blood tests, I would have declined and hoped for the best. I have sent through all tests results to Discovery and also a letter of recommendation from my gynaecologist. I called the call centre and spoke to a lady named Thuli, who said that the NIPT test can only be done after obtaining authorisation from Discovery. I trust my Dr however I feel that the communication was not accurate from all parties involved and that I am not liable for any of this. I am frustrated with this as this issue has been ongoing for weeks now
