Discovery *******ion

Dear Mr IMMELMAN

You have been listed at a credit bureau for the amount owing to Discovery Health Medical Scheme

Despite our previous reminders and requests for payment, the amount you owe has still not been settled.

Due to the non-payment of R11719.68, we have listed your name with TransUnion credit bureau. This listing could adversely affect your credit record in respect of any credit facilities you currently have or apply for and may affect applications for employment.

Section 70(2)(d) of the National Credit Act states that a registered credit bureau “must retain consumer credit information reported to it for the prescribed period, irrespective of whether that information reflects positively or negatively on the consumer”.

To avoid further legal action or fees charged against you in recovery of this debt, you may settle the outstanding amount in full by paying the outstanding amount directly into the following account:

Bank: First National Bank Account number: ***4 Branch code: 255-005

Wow, how thoughtful of you Discovery!!! I have been with Discovery for many years where unfortunately I got retrenched on 30 May 2020, this resulted in not being able to afford nor continue with my medical aid plan at Discovery. I did email the relevant retrenchment documentation to Discovery and explained the situation to them to which Discovery sent me follow-up emails to try and see if they could amend my policy instead, obviously this was also not an option due to not having had any income whatsoever and therefore had to wave this off. Luckily on July 15th I obtained new employment and again opted for medical aid with Discovery Health, the issue is that Discovery did not allow me to continue on with my previous plan and decided to provide me with a new policy number but on the same plan as what I had before. Now Discovery is demanding money from me and stating that I had signed an agreement where I still owe them plus minus R11500.00. I honestly feel this is unfair and somewhat *******. So I could not afford my medical aid for lets say x2 months and now all of a sudden I owe Discovery R11500.00? Discovery, YOU are off your rockers if you think I am going to allow you to bully & intimidate me! Please refrain from threatening me with blacklisting as this is ******** and *******! Your policy must have been written inside our government due to being just as ******* in all the same ways, you are *****ing money from people who really suffer and as such squeezing the unfortunate instead of the fortunate! I did not ask to be retrenched nor did I ask for the COVID-19 to come along and disrupt our lives as what it did nor did I ask for the hard lock-down which was implemented by our fearless precedent. Perhaps you need to go and ask our Precedent for the outstanding balance which you claim I owe you seeming he is the reason our country turned into ****! What is happening to the tax money we South African citizens are paying, its all going to the government to fill their pockets instead of using that tax money to provide us with a free medical aid just as what Australia and other countries are doing! Please revisit your records as well as All emails & messages sent to me seeming someone at Discovery messed up, how is it possible to ***** from the poor but you are unable to ***** from the rich? You make me sick, to think I have been with Discovery for so many years and still you dont have the decency to try and help me nor try and provide me with a payment holiday as what MFC provided me with on my vehicle finance. I will continue to list poor reviews towards Discovery including "****EDCONSUMERS.COM" if Discovery is not willing to come to the table and assist me in some way or another! Please feel free to contact me as you do have my details & contact details on your system!

Good day,
Please advise how does it work if I'm retrenched and cannot continue with my medical aid, is there a way or option where the company who retrenched me can be held liable for the remaining months of money owed to Discovery?
I don't have money to pay for the remaining 7 months of this year nor did I ask to be retrenched and feel that I'm not the one who should be held liable to pay for the remaining 7 months and that the company who retrenched me should therefore cover these costs.
Please advise at your earliest convenience.

How is it that Discovery does not understand the words "I dont have an income and therefore cannot make any commitments on making any kind of payment towards any medical plan regardless of the amount" and still try to intimidate me & try to force me into submission?

Come on Discovery, you are better than this!
Did you fall off from the band wagon?
my email to Discovery today 28 October 2020 as follow;

Hi Prashanth,
Please see below email as mentioned during our telecom conversation earlier today.This email was sent to Discovery on the 29th of May 2020 where I also ended of my email with my current cell phone number being provided in the signature section, so this also raises some red flags in terms of you having advised that Discovery did not have my current cell phone number to contact me on!
My telecom conversations with Joseph Tucker also seemed to have been ignored or neglected as during those telecom conversations I did make it clear that I had no income due to being retrenched and explained that it is senseless to try and provide me with a different plan whereby still needing to commit towards a monthly installment / premium which I cannot commit on paying because of not having an income.
It seems like my explanation was ignored and as such being forced into something which I could not afford, its rather simple because if I don't have an income then how can I make payment towards any medical plan regardless of the amount?
Yes I did obtain new employment on the 15th of July 2020 and yes I did again take out the same medical aid plan with Discovery due to being a client of Discovery for many years, so just a few questions I would like you to answer if you don't mind before moving on to the email sent on the 29th of May 2020;
  1. Why did Discovery not continue my old / previous plan when having known that there were outstanding funds and instead decided on providing me with a new policy instead?
  2. How can a Discovery representative advise or suggest to one who has no income be told to select a different plan option with a lower premium when knowing that person have been retrenched and has no source of income whatsoever?
  3. How is it that Discovery doesn't have a retrenchment insurance benefit in place to make provision for individuals who are being retrenched to cover the remaining balances as in my situation? (I'm sure this should be a standard add onto any policy seeming no one knows what the future holds) Any bank as well as clothing retail stores such as Ackermans as well as stores selling appliances such as Hi-Fi Corporation has this retrenchment insurance incorporated into any new account when being processed & opened to ensure provision is being made for uncontrollable events whereby then covering the installments for a 6-month period! (After all, Discovery is a financial advisor & now a bank as well if not mistaken)
  4. With the COVID-19 Lock-down our Precedent implemented a relief plan whereby helping companies to recover monies for things like this as well as the COVID-19 UIF Scheme, why did Discovery not apply & recover funds via this relief plan? (I did apply for UIF but never received a sent from the UIF and their excuse they provided me with was that apparently my skin was way too white!)
  5. Our government has double standards which we all know, the thing is that it seems like Discovery also has double standards, why else am I being made a victim and why else am I not being provided with additional options such as a 6-month payment holiday relief option like what MFC has provided me with on my vehicle finance?
  6. Where is the "Excellent" client service Discovery use to have a couple of years back whereby having out-shined all their competition? (A little help & kindness goes along way)
I'm sure the (CPA) Consumer Protection Act might be able to assist me with guidance on this subject, I guess it will be worth trying regardless of the outcome.
