Discovery collects R500k from me, but cannot pay R2k. Must read if you are with them or considering them that you know the truth

I have been a Discovery Health member for about 10 odd years. A few years ago I had to downgrade my full medical to a hospital plan. Being a parent comes with responsibilities to ensure that in case of an emergency I can still take my family to a private hospital to ensure they receive the necessary professional care. To date I have only had 2 instances (about 7 years ago and another 4 months ago) where I had to submit a claim (both in hospital) to Discovery. I had to race to my teenage son to the emergency ward at the Olivedale hospital in the middle of the night, and only left the hospital the following morning. Since then I have been haunted by different divisions (of the hospital) for payments that Discovery did not pay out. I have contacted them on FOUR separate occasions and had to beg them to review the payments and pay the providers in the hospital (Yes me as a customer having to BEG for a service that I pay for every month). Every time I get the same story: "Your claim will be reviewed in the next 2-3 working days". From there on it just disapears till I log a new call with a new service representative who tells me.......... you guessed it, the same 2-3 work day story. On my second last call to them I actually asked to speak to a manager that I could get this matter resolved, and guess what again, the same 2-3 work day story. Wait it even gets better, now the service providers in the hospital 'handed me over' to dept collectors as the useless Discovery is incapable of recognizing a hospital claim on a hospital plan. So I was now forced to pay for it from my own pocket (and still have to pay Discovery too) that I dont get black listed. Fortunately my son was okay and recovered well (no thanx to Discovery). However I must warn you all that the only 'qualified' people still in Discovery is the 'Accounts receivable' department. They have no issue deducting thousands of rands from me monthly (for 10 years), but to pay out a R700 and a R1100 claim to service providers in hospital is something they cannot do. Thank you Discovery for making this choice so easy to leave you after you have received about R500,000 of my contributions over the past few years, but you are unable to pay out R2000. Fortunately the situation what not that severe, and thank goodness I did not rely on a lying, *********, unprofessional medical scheme in my time of need. I will now go and find one of the cheaper medicals and get better service. You guys carry on *****ing money from individuals as you have mastered it. If you are reading this review and currently with Discovery I suggest you start looking for a more professional company that will not only take your money, but actually assist you in the time of need.
