DISCOVERY ARE RIPPING THEIR CLIENTS OFF

My husband and I pay in excess of R4600 per month to Discovery for medical aid. Yesterday we went for a check-up to our optometrist and to get new glasses, the first in over 4 years and Discovery are telling me that based on the fact that we have used up our medical aid savings, we have to pay for the eye test, lenses and frames out of our pocket. If that is the case, what on earth am I paying medical aid for? We only get about R12000 a year for both of us for savings and the rest is supposed to cover hospital expenses. If that is the case, I may as well put R1000-00 a month into a bank account and take out a hospital plan for R500 a month. That means that I am saving R3100 a month or R37 200 a year. Not only am I going to cancel my medical aid with Discovery, but I am going to cancel the life policy my husband has with them, my short term insurance for which I pay over R2000-00 a month for as well as an investment which we have. Discovery have now just chased a client away who has been with them for approximately 10 years. Discovery, you can go and rip some other poor sucker off because you're not doing it to me any more!!!!!

Hello phoenix,

Thank you for your comment.

I investigated your query and confirmed that on your chosen plan type once your Medical Savings Account (MSA) is depleted members will be liable for day to day claims until they reach the Annual Threshold. After which we fund for day to day claims from an additional benefit. We do understand that members have different needs and offer various plan options. We allow members during the course of the year to change to certain plans and I confirmed that your financial advisor will be able to assist with this. We've asked your financial advisor to contact you in this regard.

I am sorry that you feel this way and that I could not provide you with a different outcome to your query.

Regards
Jashvir
