Discovering the ineptness of Discovery

About 2 weeks back I was dropped off at the hospital with an extremely high fever and the medics could not figure out what was wrong. When I finally got to the hospital that is quite difficult without a physical medical aid card to get admitted.

When the doctor started trying to figure out what was wrong he requested quite a few blood tests. It was not meningitis or hepatitis eventually, he settled for an infection. So I was on a drip for an extended period with them trying to figure out what caused the infection. Here and there a few random blood tests and all.

After the stay there I got a few emails from Discovery what they covered and what they did not cover. It was okay and there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Yesterday I received an SMS from Lancet with a massive bill for the tests requested by the doctor at the hospital. Is this not what medical aid is supposed to cover? It is very strange that they decide to wait for this entire bill to be passed on to the client.

What am I paying for?

No blood tests? No physical medical card? A pathetic call centre?
