Discontinuing membership

Upon my request for a specialist approval for the key care plan (after waiting for more than a week for feedback), i was advised that my membership (of only 2 weeks) has been discontinued due to 'non disclosure'. Now as a single parent and absolutely NO knowledge of medical conditions nor terms I had not advised Discovery of the fact that my daughter (6 months old) was on nexium for acid reflux. as I am not knowledgeable on these grounds and not aware that acid reflux in babies is a choric condiction (due to being a first time mom!!!!!) i have now been discontinued as a member! This is the utmost worst reasoning for discontinueing membership as a first time mom and having almost NO knowledge of conditions nor medical expereience or terms. This claim was requested for my baby, Why terminate the membership for something so small??? why just not decline the request??? IM shocked at the service received from a supposed trusted medical aid. This is the worst experience I have gotten and made me feel like a ******** for not knowing medical Things!! Best of all is that the acid reflux my daughter has has nothing to do with the tests the pediatritrion requested for. how pathetic!!!

Hello landiblom,

Thank you for your comment.

When a member joins the Scheme, we process the application according to the information disclosed on the application. Once your membership is activated and we receive a request for either in or out of hospital authorisation within a certain period of time our system will automatically pend the request. We will then request further clinical information from your provider. This process is necessary to ascertain whether there were any pre-existing conditions of which we were not aware.

I confirmed that the Standards Team has been in contact to discuss the details of their findings. You may contact them directly should you need any further information.

Regards
Norman
