Disappointed by Discovery medical aid

Dear Hello Peter

My comment refers to Discovery Medical Aid. Extending upon an earlier earlier complaint about Discovery medical aid, by my Sister Wendy ****s. Concerning our Father with metastatic lung cancer, originating from Carcinoma.

Derrick ****s. Discovery Classic Saver ***0 incl gap cover.

Her original comment highlights Discovery medical aids'...lack of support for him in obtaining Keytruda immunotherapy. I've come to realise that Discovery are about the numbers.

The outcome is that Discovery is willing to allocate R88k of his plans R480k PMB allowance for Keytruda immunotherapy in total.

For perspective, 1 single dose/cycle of 200ml costs approx R82k plus, approx R6k for administration. You guessed it total R88k. But not so fast... He can't use the allocated R88 in one go, I.E. He can't get 1x 200ml dose/cycle into him. Rather, only covering R15k per 200ml dose/cycle, until the R88k ceiling is reached.

Ridiculous ! Can't afford it. Who can? That's what people have medical aid for...with Gap cover nogal?! A big gap indeed.

Surely to goodness the human thing to do is to throw an olive branch. Meet your clients needs halfway between human and reasonably useful.

In terms of the aforementioned - Surely it's his R480k prescribed MINIMUM benefit, He hasn't touched it? Its a bit misleading. A MINIMUM useful thing that Discovery can do, is atleast cover 3x 100ml half doses/cycles - R135k worth of his R480k benefit. 3x 100ml half dosages (Keytruda immunotherapy) is supported by his Oncologist Dr.Malan and, sufficient for him to actually get through winter, a bit more time with his family. He's upset. We get it. He's more upset by leaving behind his wife of 50yrs who, has dementia. He is still sorting her weekly medication into her weekly medical box ready for the following week. Myself, have motor neuron disease and I'm well aware my time with him is finite.

What gets me is that it takes a comment on Hellopeter to elicit a response. Otherwise there was nothing forthcoming. Then the response of no practical purpose?

[Discovery] if you are going to contact him, don't waist his time with reasons and excuses. Iether you will...or you won't.

My view is Discovery has an A.I. chat bot. Why couldn't your chat bot or algorithm contact him or any client on WhatsApp with an appropriate reminder, along the lines of, [Dear Client we see you recently had a Carcinoma removed, we advise you to update your policy in order to receive the maximum possible amount of medical support terms andconditions apply]

But I wouldn't recommend Discovery medical aid. Rate you at 2/10.
