Delay by Discovery results in member penalty

While working overseas, I kept my Discovery medical for me and my son going for home visits. However, I decided to terminate my membership on 31 July 2015, as I was going to assume duty overseas again in August 2015. Unfortunately this did not materialise, and on 26 October 2015 I instructed my broker to reinstate our Discovery Health membership on the KeyCare plan. My broker advised me that Discovery had a new (better) plan, Smart Plan, and he requested more information from Discovery. It turned out that the plan, although being marketed, would only be rolled out in Jan 2016. This whole process caused a delay of several days, causing me to exceed the 90 day period within which one is supposed to rejoin a medical aid. As soon as we received this information, I instructed my broker to put us back on Key Care immediately. However, Discovery then decided to impose penalties on me for having exceeded the 90 day period, starting with 25% which was reduced to 5% after me having provided them with proof of medical aid membership for 26 years, many years with them. It is unfair that a delay on their part has resulted in a penalty for me.
