Decide what they like when they like!!!
I am Bipolar and have been for about 10 years. I have been on numerous medications which never worked and have been hospitalised on many occasions. Its funny how when you are in hospital Discovery will pay for all your meds to get you well but when you come out and are stable they decide to ***** you by paying minimal costs for medicines. Even getting the doctor to put your meds on Chronic doesnt help because they only pay a small portion, so whats the point of Chronic benefits? My main medication costs approx R3300 per month and they pay a measly R690, never mind the rest which in a month amounts to about R5***. So because of this huge cost I need to budget and can only afford to get my medication weekly as I cannot afford to lump out R6000 all at once. So the main problem starts here. My pharmacy told me today that Discovery allows you to fill your scripts 13 times in one year. So far this year I have got medication 8 times(8 weeks) and now can only fill my script 4 more times this year? That means I must pay myself for the rest of the year? Please explain this to me Discovery because nowhere in any of your documents does it state that you can only fill a script 13 times!!!!

As discussed, during a hospitalisation you treatment is covered from Risk in line with your approved authorisation. Once discharged, medication is funded from your available day-to-day benefits for acute medication and/or from your Chronic Illness Benefit (CIB). The funding of medication from the CIB is subject to the CIB medication formulary, any medication which does not fall part of the formulary is either funded from your available day-to-day benefits or from the Chronic Benefit up to a Chronic Drug Amount.
