Deceptive & Greedy Discovery Health

I was admitted to hospital on the evening of 21 December 2021 in a diabetic ketoacidotic coma (delivered in an ambulance). I was not lucid, but my doctor felt a scope was necessary and made the the decision to go ahead. So the scope was performed, and had I been conscious and known there would be such a hefty co-payment (6.5K), I would have declined the scope. I only woke up from the coma on the morning of 23 December, by which time, the scope had already been done.

The day I left the hospital, I was told there was a 6.5K co-payment owing for said scope. I appealed the decision with Didcovery three times (including lab reports and results) but they continue to insist that imust pay this money as the procedure did not fall into their 'Prescribed Minimum Benefit' even though I was admitted to hospital at the time and should be fully covered by my hospital plan.

I am totally disgusted at Discovery and their attitude towards this. Every time I phone I get a different consultant and every email gets a response from a 'no-reply' email so I can't even have a conversation with anyone about it. With all the money that Discovery make, you would have thought they could at least pick up the phone to call me and have a conversation about it! Instead they just bully their clients and then hide behind their call centre and computers!!

And the end result is that I still have to pay a co-payment for a procedure performed on me in hospital, in an emergency situation, while I wasnot even conscious!! Well done Discovery- you should be proud of yourselves!!
