I am writing to express my utter dismay at the exploitative practices your company has adopted, which seem to prioritize profit at the expense of fairness and compassion for the average South African.

My daughter, a middle-income earner and a loyal KeyCare member for several years, has been subjected to an appalling recalculation of her 2025 contributions. As a single mother of a 2-year-old, she receives a modest R2,600 in financial support from her child’s father. Shockingly, Discovery has now decided to include this stipend as part of her income, inflating her contribution to an exorbitant R4,673 per month.

Without this support, her adjusted contribution would be R3,201, already a significant financial burden. This arbitrary inclusion has effectively resulted in a staggering R1,472 increase, far surpassing the already substantial year-on-year increment.

It is astonishing how a company that markets itself as a champion of well-being and care can so brazenly disregard the struggles of ordinary citizens. This policy not only undermines the principle of equitable healthcare but also demonstrates a blatant disregard for the realities faced by single-income households.

The exploitation is glaring. Your decision-makers should take a moment to reflect on the undue financial strain you are imposing on those who trust you to support their health and well-being. A reputable organization would strive to alleviate burdens, not amplify them.

I strongly urge you to reassess this unjust policy and to demonstrate that Discovery values its members over its bottom line.
