Crazy scheme rates by discovery medical health paid to specialist

So I saw a Gp she gets paid 493 and she couldn’t help, I see a specialist and she gets paid 430, which I had to make a co payment of R300 for the consultation but the medical aid cannot pay 1245 they can only pay 430 as per the scheme rate, I call to get clarity and I’m told the specialist can charge any amount they want as they are not controlled

But my question is how can a specialist be paid less than a GP who couldn’t help me with my medical condition and the Specialist can but is paid less.. now I have an additional payment to pay at the specialist of 850, after I have paid an admin fee of 300, The medical aid is only liable for450... when I have in total liable for 1150. How can this make sense? So if I don’t have 1150 I will stay in my house and die, yet with medical cover

Paying cash would have worked out far cheaper than with medical aid, as I wouldn’t even incur phone bills for clarity.
