Co payment only applicable if MSA funds available
Was referred to Mediclinic by my GP for a gastroscopy. Being on medical aid, I was asked if I have and funds available in my MSA, to which I answered yes. I hardly use my medical aid. I was told at pre admissions that a Co payment of R3500 would be required but this would be taken from my MSA. Now the problem I have is, if my MSA was depleted the amount would not be required and would be \written off". Please explain the fairness in all this. I dont use my MSA often and never deplete it"

I looked into your concerns and confirmed that the funding for all endoscopic procedures done in-hospital will attract an upfront amount payable from your available Medical Saving Account (MSA) on your chosen plan type. The amount can be funded from your MSA, should you not have any funds available, you would still be liable for this amount which is payable to the hospital. The balance of the hospital account and related accounts are funded from the Hospital Benefit at the Scheme rate and according to the benefits applicable to your plan.
I have emailed you more information on the funding for the procedure, you can contact us should you have any concerns.
