Chronic Medication
My wife is a patient under the care of Prof UG Lalloo for Liver and Lung Sardcoidosis and currently has Chronic active Hepatitis that has progressed to cirrhosis as a result and may ultimately require a liver transplant or succumb prematurely to the complication of progressive liver disease. My Doctor has specified all the Standard Medication she is intolerant of. My Doctor has recommended the a trial of Infliximab and because this medication is not Discovery Chronic Benefit List. They have kept on asking for more details which we provided and we gave them the ICD codes, Published Articles and other information and no one seems to be bothered. My Doctor even phoned Discovery Health and spoke to the Chronic Department and wanted to know who went through his Motivation for the Medication and was told that some Clerk in the Chronic Depart. turned it down . How can a Clerk who is not qualified turn down a Motivation from a health professional. Discovery Health would spend millions rands for a Liver Transplant rather than approve this medication .This is totally craxy and unacceptable as I am also paying quite a substantial amount in Medical Subscrition. Who at Discovery update the CBL.
