Cheaper to never join

I wanted to change to a lower plan as i was on one of the top plans. after all the arrangements was made the next month came and they tried to take the higher plan premium. Of course i did not have that type of money in the account cause i was assured the plan will be changed. so i was behind on my payment according to them. I then wanted to cancel when they said that i owe almost 2 times my premium cause my medical savings was depleted (within 3 months. would be better to put a amount aside and use that as they take everything you do off the MSA). We decided to stay on and pay the amount behind and then change. after the money was paid and up to date they said that now i owe them the balance of the MSA in order to change and on top of that the new months premium so now we are standing on 3 times my premium. The longer you stay with them the more they want. totally unacceptable. would never go back to discovery

Hello Walter-Rusty,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) is an amount that we give you at the beginning of the year for day-to-day medical costs, like doctor visits, x-rays and dentist visits.

The full amount is available to you at the beginning of the year, like a loan. You pay towards it as part of your monthly contribution to the medical scheme. By the end of the year, you will have paid the full amount into your MSA.

If you leave the scheme or change your plan to a plan with no Medical Savings Account (or lower savings) and have spent more than the amount you've paid, you may owe the Scheme an amount and will need to pay it back.

I have sent you a detailed email in this regard. I am sorry that I cannot offer you a different outcome, however hope that the information above has provided you with more clarity in this regard.
Kind regards
Danita
