cancellation of membership recovering addict
I joined discovery late December, I then payed premiums for 3 months. I then went throw a difficult time emotionally where I needed help with drug abuse. I then thought that I will use medical aid for better professional help. I was then told that I have not disclosed that I had a drug problem and that my medical aid will now be terminated for not telling them apparently it falls under mental something something. In my understanding its my past in drug abuse and coming clean is my personal story not anybody business. And I don't know how my being recovering addict affects my membership? can someone explain this to me.

When a member joins the Scheme, we process the application according to the information disclosed on the application. Once your membership is activated and we receive a request for either in or out of hospital authorisation within a certain period of time our system will automatically pend the request. We will then request further clinical information from your provider. This process is necessary to ascertain whether there was any pre-existing conditions of which we were not aware. We confirmed you have been contacted by our Standards team who have found that your pre-existing condition was not noted on your application. As a result, the Standards team have withdrawn your membership which is in line with the Scheme rules. Should you have any further queries, please contact the Standards team directly for assistance on this matter.
