Breast reduction decline

It is disheartening to see the way Discovery treats their clients. Two years ago i received a motivation letter for a breast reduction from my doctor for submission to Discovery Medical Aid, which was sadly declined, asking what treatment has the client received - sorry their is no such thing as treatment for over-sized breast. I have exercised, lost weight but sadly not in my breast. I have been suffering from serve backache, shoulders pains, due to my bra straps causing dents in my shoulders, even my spine has been affected by the size of my breast. After which i received another letter from another doctor, which i never bothered submitting to Discovery, due to their previous decline. I have been referred by my gynaecologist to consult a surgeon, which i would need to pay for myself of course, and upon inquiring with surgeons, it became very apparent that they've had few successful cases of approval, making it even more disheartening to even waste your money to go through a consultation and having no success. Hence my decision to speak out on Hellopeter, not just for myself but many other women out there, just like me.

I would just like to point out, that although Discovery Health sees this as just another cosmetic surgery, which they feel patients / clients, should pay for for themselves, I can assure you it's not easy living with breast that disrupts your whole lifestyle. Listing things which i personally am living with due to this problem, and i know so many other women are too: - Not being able to stand for too long / sitting up in certain positions / not being able to lay on you stomach or back (especially not laying down watching tv, as you can't see past your breast) - having trouble finding blouses, tops, jackets etc, and MOST IMPORTANTLY BRA's (which you can't find a decent one with a size 44 DD / E, without going to a Woolworths or Edgars store and paying nothing less then R250 a bra, if you lucky) - having a low self-esteem and not going out in public, as you get stares from all sorts of men (being a young women in my twenties, it's embarrassing when a old man looks at me and commenting unwanted remarks) - suffering from tremendous discomfort, as you start having rashes (which i currently have, it's itching and just getting worse, particularly worse in summer than in winter), you have cuts under your breast, which cause a burning sensation every time you bath and at time it gives off a sweaty smell as well from time to time

The list can go on, this is just some of the factors which comes in to play. I would opening like to challenge those making these decisions at the "top" in just declining what they see as just "another cosmetic surgery", to walk around with over sized breast silicone for a minimum 1 week without removal thereof to experience what women like me really go through. As you have no ideal what we go through and nor can we all afford to pay for these kind of surgeries just like that, as for some medical aid is compulsory within your work environment!
