Billing Dispute

Hi there,

My company recently took over my medical effective 1st April 2017 and changed me over to a Smart Hospital plan.

I joined Discovery (Delta Saver) and was paying in a personal capacity from 1st January 2017. However my deducation for April was debited from me so I queried this with Discovery first on the 10th April. They have responded to me twice with the exact same answer copied from the previous response:

"Your billing method is in arrears. This means that on the 1st of each month you are paying for the previous month. On the 1st of April 2017 we deducted the premium for March 2017.

Your plan was changed to the Classic Smart plan and transferred to your employer group effective 01.04.2017. Your first premium for this plan will be deducted from the employer on the 1st of May 2017 for the month of April 2017. Your monthly premium for this plan is R1 535.00. My apologies for any inconvenience caused."

Please see my response:

"

Kindly explain to me how I can be billed in arrears if my cover only started on the 1st January and I was consequently billed on the 3rd January. If it was in arrears then I would be paying for December's cover on the 3rd January - except that I was not on Discovery in December, only from January. I have being paying in a personal capacity in ADVANCE not in ARREARS.

I will copy and paste from my previous reply:

Hi there,
Please check your finance records - my Delta cover started on the 1st January 2017. My first deduction was taken from my bank account on the 4th January - so I was NOT paying in arrears. See below from my bank statement:

3rd January Disc Prem M ********** - ********** 04 R2058 ---- this was for January

1st February Disc Prem M ********** - ********** 01 R2058 -----this was for February

1st March Disc Prem M ********** - ********** 31 R2058 ----- this was for March

4th April Disc Prem M ********** - ********** 78 R2058 ------ this was for April

Yes so in terms of paying in arrears, my first premium for the new plan will be deducted from my employer on the 1st of May 2017 in arrears for the month of April 2017.

Hence from above you can you see that April is being paid twice - one by myself for R2058 for Delta (on 4th April) and then R1535 by my employer (to be paid on 1st May). "

Please advise when my April deducation on the Delta plan of R2058 will be paid back to me - as my company will be covering me on my hospital plan from 1st April.

Here are the email reference numbers:

Change of Plan for ********** 30 -WRefNo# ********** 709#- -MailRef# ********** 989#
