Bad versitility to change plan options when needed
My wife and I discovered on 31/12/2014 that we were expecting our first baby. We received the official blood test results on 06/01/2015. In planning for the pregnancy, I requested discovery to upgrade our medical aid plan from Coastal Saver to Classic Saver and pay the surplus for the upgraded medical aid. They are unwilling to do so and apparently allow members to upgrade once a year! What a pathetic medical aid where one cannot change based on life's needs. If nothing comes of this I will cancel medical aid with Discovery Health and seek one that will help. Even sending a letter of motivation indicating the above fell on deaf ears. Once in the past Discovery was regarded as a caring medical aid, but I can say they are not. I am disappointed in a medical aid I've been with for over 10 years and when I need them most, they disappoint. Seems Bonita or Genesis Medical aid should be followed. As discussed, there are some restrictions on moving between health plans, which are there to protect all the members of the medical scheme. Discovery Health only allows you to move to certain health plans during the year. When you join Discovery Health as a member, you choose a certain health plan, at least until the end of the year in which you join. Towards the end of each year, you have an opportunity to review the cover for your healthcare needs and you can choose to move to another health plan based on this. You may move to another health plan from 1 January each year and will pay the contribution for this plan.
Unfortunately, we are unable to consider your request favourably as our decision needs to be in line with the Scheme rules and in fairness to all our members. I am sorry that I cannot offer you a different outcome.
