Bad Service

Title: Discovery Health – Unacceptable Service, Lack of Communication, and Incorrect Handling of My Hospitalization Claims

Complaint:

I was hospitalized at Rosebank Clinic from 3 July to 12 July 2025. Throughout my stay, I was under the impression that my admission had been fully authorized by Discovery Health, as there was no communication from Discovery to indicate otherwise.

When I later reviewed my Discovery app, I was shocked to see that the costs for my hospitalization were deducted from my Medical Savings Account (MSA) instead of being covered under hospitalization benefits. Upon contacting Discovery, I was informed that my stay had only been authorized for three days, which came as a complete surprise.

After numerous phone calls, emails, and submitting motivation letters from my doctors, my admission was still declined. I was eventually advised by Discovery’s agents to lodge a dispute, which I did — and after waiting the full 30 days, I finally received confirmation on Thursday, 16 October, that my hospital stay had been authorized.

However, by that point, my MSA had been depleted, and I had to pay out of my own pocket to close my Self-Payment Gap. I made payments on Sunday, 19 October, and Monday, 20 October, which should have closed the gap and moved me into my Annual Threshold.

To make matters worse, when I checked my tracker recently, I discovered that Discovery had reversed certain claims and refunded money into my MSA, yet my Self-Payment Gap remains unchanged — exactly as it was before I made my out-of-pocket payments. This means Discovery has effectively placed me back into a gap that I already closed with my own funds.

I have spoken to multiple Discovery consultants and received conflicting information from each one. Unfortunately, the representatives I dealt with seemed to lack understanding of the issue, and one consultant, Brandon Olivire, was particularly unprofessional in handling my case.

As a loyal Discovery client paying a high monthly premium, I find this level of service completely unacceptable. It is unfair that clients are expected to pay their premiums on time or face suspension, yet Discovery takes weeks to resolve issues that directly affect our finances.

All I am asking is for Discovery to acknowledge that my Self-Payment Gap has been closed and that I am now in my Annual Threshold. If Discovery wishes to return funds to my MSA, that is acceptable — but they cannot restart my Self-Payment Gap or penalize me for their administrative errors.

I trust that Discovery will urgently review this matter and rectify their mistake without further delay.
