Avoid Discovery at all costs

This is a follow up from a previous review. I received a request from Hello Peter to ask if I want to update my review based on their response. I have often looked at these complaints on Hello Peter and wondered how accurate they are because due to the confidential nature of this complaint Discovery cannot supply much detail so its a one sided argument. I do however, need to categorically assure you, that in this case I have a letter from my Neurosurgeon confirming my condition with the ICD10 codes. These same codes and my condition is listed on the list of PMB conditions on the Council for Medical Schemes website. They still refuse to register my PMB condition. My Neurosurgeon is contracted in to Discovery. I will do a follow up review again once I have finished the process and received feedback after lodging a complaint with the Council for medical schemes. For now all I can say is that Discovery premiums are going up hugely. They are offering less benefits for higher costs each year and no longer offer a premium service to justify their prices. There are other better options. I have been a member of Discovery medical aid for 22 Years and really did not want to change but this year has been a very bitter learning experience for me. If they cannot even register a legitimate PMB condition and don't believe their own Discovery contracted Neurosurgeon, it's too much of a risk to go with Discovery. I had no choice but to have the operation to avoid becoming a paraplegic but I'm paying for it now with a very bad credit record and a pile of bills I have no idea how to pay. It's just not worth it

As promised herewith an update. The CMS appeal was scheduled for April. This morning I received a phone call from the Discovery legal team to say that they have decided not to defend the appeal. They advised that after speaking to my doctor and looking at the MRI results that it is indeed a PMB condition and that I can claim my out of Pocket expenses. It is a real pity that it had to go so far and take so long but I would like to thank the Discovery legal team for investigating further. I have submitted claim and now await reimbur*****t. If this reimbur*****t happens then it is probably fair to say I should review my rating. For now it stays a one star until this entire matter is finalised. Once this has been done I will submit my final feedback and rating review.
