Attempted Entrapment by Discovery Consultant

I am beyond disappointed with Discovery Health’s conduct. After a phone call where a consultant attempted to entrap me, I received a letter stating that Discovery had unilaterally changed the terms of my contract. Their reasoning? They claimed I had omitted medical information because I had used basic, freely available shelf medication before joining—something as routine as taking vitamin C or headache tablets.

I am not a doctor and have never been diagnosed or formally treated for the health condition in question, yet Discovery took it upon themselves to assume a diagnosis based on non-pharmacy-controlled medication. They then used this assumption to alter my contract retroactively, essentially looking for a loophole to avoid paying claims.

Despite my clear instruction to cancel my policy immediately, Discovery initiated an appeal I never authorized and has failed to confirm my cancellation. This lack of accountability and customer service is deeply disappointing.

Discovery Health’s behaviour in this matter has left me both shocked and disheartened. It’s clear they are more focused on avoiding claims than supporting their members. I would strongly caution anyone considering Discovery Health to think twice before entrusting their health to such an organization.

Update: No one at Discovery Health has contacted me as promised in the above comment. I have however received a response to their appeal action. They have conducted a so-called internal investigation, and once again, they are falsely accusing me of having an undisclosed condition. To be clear, I have never been diagnosed with this condition, nor have I ever received formal treatment for it. Despite using manipulative and leading questions in their initial communication, Discovery is standing firm on their baseless accusations.

This entire process has been both exhausting and absurd. Discovery’s insistence on fabricating conditions rather than supporting their members is not only *********—it’s also nonsensical. I stand by my decision to leave Discovery and caution anyone considering them to be extremely wary of their deceptive practices.

Your latest demand for payment is completely outrageous. After falsely accusing me of having a pre-existing condition I was never diagnosed with, attempting to entrap me with leading questions, and unjustly altering the terms of my contract, you now have the audacity to demand money from me?
Let me be absolutely clear: I owe Discovery nothing. You, on the other hand, have failed to honour your obligations, engaged in deceptive practices, and left me no choice but to terminate my membership at that time. If anything, I should be demanding a refund for the money I paid for a service that was never fairly provided.

As I need medical aid and Momentum’s sign-up procedure cannot be done online, and their consultants cannot call outside of my working hours, as a test, I app**** to rejoin Discovery with the hopes that I would be treated better, as I have used Discovery for years before their practices were revealed to me. And of course, your behaviour is just as bad - if not worse.
This is yet another example of Discovery’s ********* behaviour. I will not be making any payment, and I expect immediate confirmation that there is no outstanding balance. Any further harassment regarding this matter will leave me with no choice but to escalate this to the relevant regulatory bodies and legal avenues.
