Asthma Chronic Medication
I have a 5 year old son who is in hospital on average every 3 months because of uncontolled Asthma. He's Paediatrician recently referred him to a Paediatric Pulmonologist. First to get authoristaion for this was a nightmare. Had to escalate until it was approved. The pulmonologist has put my son on different medication. Discovery is refusing to fund this medication (They have instead approved one out 4 medications). This is medication that is suppose to reduce or eliminate hospital admissions. I honestly feel disappointed that they are happy paying huge hospital bills than pay for chronic medication to control the condition. I've been sent back and forth to the Pulmonologist (who has a very hectic schedule) to get a motivation letter but this was declined by Discovery all the same. A manager in the Chronic department called Justine does not have solutions for me. She says i must go back to my Doctor and ask her to call their Doctors. Everything she says starts with "Unfortunately". And yes, unfortunately i'm stuck with a sick child, paying medical aid scheme that i can afford as per my earnings, and unfortunately I will have to take my son for admission again soon. Discovery Health, Not everything is Black and White, THERE ARE ALWAYS GREY AREAS, have the courtesy to look into them.
