Ageism

My innovative and brilliant pain specialist wants to try to treat my CRPS ear pain by performing C1/C2 radio frequency stimulation. Discovery, will not authorise this, despite numerous appeals and explanations. - we appealed 6 times.

In their rejection letter, they state that they are consistent with their funding to each of their members. I DISAGREE! My doctor has performed this procedure many times before (on older patients- I am one of his youngest patients) with no objections. Now when it comes to me, a 16-year-old, having something done to her spine, it is rejected. What does my age have to do with anything? If I was over 18 this wouldn’t even be a topic of conversation.

Because I’m under 18 that means that Discovery won’t pay for my needed medical treatment to treat the chronic condition that I CANNOT CONTROL and that doesn’t wait for me to become of age before attacking my body.

Age should not be a factor when getting approval for treatments! The access to medical care is a basic human right. But now does this mean these rights only apply once I turn 18? I am sick and tired of the ageism that goes on in the medical community!
