Advanced Illness Benefit

My brother was signed up for AIB in August 2017. A Discovery AIB representative called me and assured me that whatever he required to make his last months more comfortable, AIB would cover the cost. Decided not to make use of 24/7 carer and rather manage with him on our own at home. Did however arrange for once a week physio session. This cost was deducted from his savings, not AIB as promised. Understood a case worker would be assigned to assist me with any AIB queries. I was redirected so many times until finally in December when I was struggling to get any AIB info , Sister from Hospice managed to get case worker to contact me. Apparently, case worker originally assigned to my brother had resigned few months prior and no one else was assigned? So basically anyone who was signed up for AIB in WCape were left without support. Case worker who finally contacted me was covering ECape and initially tried to assist but was clearly not interested/over worked? With the result that I had no one assisting me when I really needed it and my brother passed away on the 1st Jan. Would really have appreciated some assistance and support as promised by Discovery AIB in his final weeks to make him more comfortable. Signing him up for AIB was a complete waste of time, we received no benefits, only frustration and disappointment.
