Absolutely Disgusted with the Service and Lack of Accountability
The service I have received from Discovery Health throughout this matter has been absolutely disgusting and extremely frustrating. My child’s medical needs are being treated like a game of “pass the customer around.” I have been sent from one department to another, speaking to different agents who either don’t understand the matter, give conflicting information, or simply cannot provide a solution. Every time I explain the situation, I am told to contact another department, and the cycle starts all over again. After 18 years of being a loyal member and never missing a payment, I honestly expected far better service and accountability. This is not just a claim or a number on a system — this is my 4-year-old child who needs medical treatment. Nobody seems willing or capable of taking ownership of this matter and resolving it. I am exhausted from constantly having to explain the same situation, chase responses and be transferred from one department to another. Discovery Health, I am asking for someone competent to finally take ownership of this case, investigate it properly and provide a resolution. My child’s healthcare should not be treated like a departmental problem.
I am absolutely disgusted and deeply disappointed with Discovery Health. My 4-year-old daughter requires a two-hour dental procedure under general anaesthesia, yet Discovery Health is refusing to approve the appropriate treatment and is suggesting that the procedure can simply be done in the dentist’s surgery.
This is a 4-year-old child, not an adult who can simply sit through a two-hour procedure. Her dental needs are also connected to complications arising from her cleft palate.
After 18 years of faithfully paying our medical aid premiums without missing a single payment, this is the treatment and service we receive when our child genuinely needs medical care.
What makes this even more frustrating is the disgusting customer service. I have been sent from one department to another, speaking to agents who don't seem to understand the matter or know how to resolve it. Nobody takes ownership, nobody gives a clear answer, and my case remains unresolved.
Discovery Health has made us fight every step of the way while we are simply trying to get our young child the appropriate care she needs.
My child’s safety is not negotiable. I cannot understand how a two-hour procedure under general anaesthesia is being treated as though it can simply be done routinely in a dental surgery.
I would strongly advise people to think twice before choosing Discovery Health. When it is time to pay your monthly premiums, everything is fine. But when your child needs expensive or specialised treatment, suddenly you are left fighting to get assistance.
After this experience, I will be encouraging my family members to seriously consider changing their healthcare provider.
18 years of loyalty, and this is how we are treated when our 4-year-old needs help. Absolutely unacceptable.
