6 year old kicked off Medical Aid because father has frequent urination
Very disappointed with Discovery South Africa based on the below:
In January, we made the decision to add my partner and his daughter who is 6 onto my medical aid with Discovery (who I had been with since 2018 and for my entire childhood under my parents) - we decided on a plan we could afford for all 3 of us, given my partner is unemployed.
My partner, having never been on a medical aid before and showing no signs of illness at all and never been diagnosed with any ilness or chronic illness (besides for some skin reaction) / fungus, and being physically fit and peeing more frequently since he could remember, he went to a GP for a standard check up (we paid our co-payment and went to a network GP in Panorama as per our policy) - in this consultation, my partner was tested on a few things including a hearing test, blood pressure, weight, sugar, skin etc and disclosed that he had what we believed to be a weak bladder and wondered if there was any treatment for that as it lately started to affect his sleeping patterns and got to a point of sometimes wetting himself.
At this stage, he was referred to a specialist in our network as decided by the GP for frequent urination - which, unknown to us, we went ahead and followed through as per the GP's request.
Fast forward to the specialist visit and a few more tests later, the specialist requested an operation to be able to fully diagnose my partner - from his tests, he could not understand or pin point the reason why my partners bladder fills rapidly. As we were told, we needed authorization for hospital admission on the Monday and that is were the trouble started.
Friday, after numerous calls to Discovery South Africa we found that, that the authorization had been referred to forensic team as they were in there first month on the medical aid and it was a routine check - a PMA form had to be completed and then we would be on our way to the hospital for the procedure as requested by the specialist... The email was sent to the incorrect Doctor, numerous calls between myself and the GP took place over the next few days until finally the form was received and the standard 16 hours SLA kicked in...
Fast forward again, and countless amounts of follow up calls between some very helpful and some very unhelpful agents, we managed to finally receive a call from the department that needed to authorize the procedure - a few questions here an there and the case was referred to the medical adviser.
Another 48 hours later and we finally had feedback - it was Friday afternoon already and we were being told that my partner as well as his daughter were being removed from my medical aid immediately due to non-disclosure of a medical condition (his frequent peeing) as we didnt know its a medical condition until the visit to the specialist and that was the final outcome - no questions could be asked to change it and that was it.
It is now Monday, I am yet to receive final confirmation of this as requested, they have been removed from my profile - I paid for a full month for them to be active members on my medical aid, I have logged a formal complaint, reached out via Twitter and shared my membership details on Friday and yet still silence from Discovery.
