3 month waiting period for Discovery to Discovery?
I recently moved a dependant over from her dads medical aid to my medical aid. She has been with discovery all her life and now just moved to mine. She is pregnant and this was declared long ago while she was with discovery. This was also communicated when we wanted to move. We were advised to first cancel the contract with the previous discovery before moving over. All of this was successfully done although it took months. Now Discovery want to tell me I have to pay for her in full but she has a 3 month waiting period which means she isn't covered and neither can she use the medical aid we are paying for it.

If this was the case she would've never changed so this was very poorly communicated and structured by Discovery. She is pregnant and need to be covered at all time and has always been a good costumer or Discovery Health and the same count for myself. this is absolutely ridiculous. What happens if she goes early into labor?
Thank you for your comment.
The Medical Schemes Act allows medical schemes to apply waiting periods to protect their ability to pay claims and remain sustainable in the long term. In South Africa, medical schemes apply open enrolment and community rating - schemes cannot refuse anyone based on their health status or age, and people who are more likely to claim from the scheme pay the same contributions as people who are less likely to claim.
A waiting period (a time when members cannot claim for a healthcare service) is an underwriting tool available to a medical scheme to manage risk.
I have provided you with details around your query telephonicaly and via email.
