Beware of unfair rental practices

I was subjected to a deceptive practice; I ended up paying more than double the price I had initially confirmed online! In Birmingham (UK), Drivalia, working in conjunction with DiscoverCars, coerced me into paying €250 instead of the agreed €100 on DiscoverCars due to a supposed issue with the security deposit.

They insisted that a "credit" card was necessary for the deposit, overlooking the fact that my card, a VISA, was identified as a "debit" card. Despite my efforts to clarify—in person and via email—that in France, the distinction between "debit" and "credit" cards is not prevalent, and we simply use VISA or MASTERCARD, they remained inflexible. It's perplexing because this very card has facilitated vehicle rentals during my travels around the world, including in England, without any hitch regarding the deposit. Eventually, I was cornered into opting for a non-deposit package, which shockingly cost 2.5 times the original quote.

Having rented vehicles in numerous countries with this card, never once have I faced such an issue until now. Suggesting that the problem lies with my card is not only ludicrous but also underestimates the consumer's intelligence.

To my fellow French travelers, a word of advice: approach with caution or, better yet, find an alternative provider to avoid similar frustrations.

Dear Mikael,

We apologize for any misunderstandings.
On our website, we accept payments with all cards and under anyone's name.

However, when picking up the vehicle, the main driver must have a credit card in their name with the security deposit limit; otherwise, the agency may refuse delivery of the vehicle or require additional insurance
It is not possible to leave the security deposit on a card with someone else's name other than the main driver.

The deposit is due because if an accident happens to the vehicle, the provider will withdraw the deposit amount for the repair, and we will reimburse the customer.

DiscoverCars.com has honesty and transparency with our customers as one of its principles.
All this information is available under the rental conditions and later on in the voucher.

I want to compensate you for this misunderstanding.
Send me a message at *** with the following information:

1. Link to this review.
2. Reservation number.
(If you are not sure what your reservation number is, you can share with us the email address used for the reservation and the main driver's full name.)

I am waiting for your message to resolve this issue.
