Unprofessional Conduct and Unauthorised Debit – Dischem Life Insurance (Oscar Lisoga)
I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Oscar Lisoga, a representative of Dischem Life Insurance.
After requesting clarification on several important points in the life-insurance policy he offered, Mr Lisoga stated via email that he would revert with the necessary information. He never provided any follow-up.
During our phone call (while he was still in the process of collecting my personal details), he repeatedly urged me to accept a debit order mandate he had already submitted to my bank. I made it clear that I would not authorise any debit order until I had fully reviewed the policy contract.
When I eventually received the preliminary policy documents, several details were unsatisfactory, and given that Mr Lisoga had still not answered the outstanding questions, I decided not to proceed with the policy. The initial documents were not final or official yet, as neither I nor Dischem Life had received my medical test results yet. Several key details were still pending, and therefore the policy could not legitimately be considered final at that stage.
The main reason for my questions to Mr Lisoga, was to ensure that everybody is on the exact same page - before the policy becomes an official contract. But, I never got the answers I was looking for, and, as a result, I did not accept the debit order mandate on 17 November 2025. Despite this, another debit order mandate was sent to me 24 hours later. I rejected the debit order mandate - confirmed by FNB.
On 1 December 2025, I discovered that Dischem Life Insurance had nevertheless debited my bank account for the first premium, despite my explicit rejection of the mandate.
I have therefore filed a debit order dispute with FNB, as the debit was unauthorised. I have also informed Mr Lisoga that, if this matter is not resolved within 24 hours, I will escalate it further by filing formal complaints with the National Consumer Commission, the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, and the National Financial Ombud.
This experience has been deeply unprofessional and unacceptable, and I am making this public to ensure accountability.
