27 Mar 2026, 09:25 I am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding the persistent harassment and inaccurate billing concerning the above-mentioned account. Despite settling this debt in full in November 2023, I continue to be subjected to daily collection calls. Background of the Dispute:
The continued pursuit of a settled debt, coupled with the failure to provide a paid-up letter, constitutes a breach of the National Credit Act (NCA) and the Debt Collectors Act. Specifically, I dispute the validity of any "balance" remaining on this account following the November 2023 settlement. Formal Demands:
In terms of Section 72 of the NCA, I hereby demand that you provide the following within 7 (seven) calendar days:
- Inconsistent Settlement Quotes: In early 2023, I was provided a settlement figure of R73,000. By mid-2023, this figure inexplicably increased by R21,000 to R94,000, despite ongoing payments and retrenchment cover (credit life insurance) being active since March 2022.
- Full and Final Payment: On 10 November 2023, I paid the demanded settlement amount of R94,000.
- Communication Gap: Between November 2023 and January 2026, I received no communication suggesting an outstanding balance. The sudden resumption of daily collection calls is both procedurally irregular and constitutes harassment.

Good day, MRS MARIA S ACKERMAN
We confirm receipt of your documentation, which has been submitted to the IUA for consideration of a potential claim.
The documents received relate to a Permanent Disability claim in respect of an eye condition.
In support of the claim, a medical letter from your General Practitioner (GP) was included. However, please note that to qualify for a Permanent Disability benefit, the member must be medically boarded by the treating specialist. Reports or confirmation from a GP alone do not meet the assessment requirements.
To enable us to further assist with your Permanent Disability claim, we kindly request one of the following:
A comprehensive medical report from your treating specialist confirming that you have been declared totally and permanently disabled and unfit to work; or
the specialist to complete our Medical Attendant Report in full.
In addition, please confirm whether you were employed again after your previous retrenchment. If so, kindly provide a termination letter from the subsequent employer, indicating the reason for termination and the relevant employment dates.
Should you require any clarification or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
