DISGUSTED WITH DION WIRED

I bought a Seagate 6Tb USB HUB from Dion Wired Menlyn three weeks ago. When I went into the shop on the 3 February 2019, I could not find a salesperson to assist because they are always busy laughing and talking together in front of the entrance. At no time through the purchase was I made aware of a returns policy. There is no signage that I saw in the store and there is nothing printed on the till slip. Also, the cashier said nothing to me.

The Seagate Hub is defective and I returned it on Saturday (exactly 3 weeks to the day) with the slip and all original packaging. First I was made to wait for the assistant manageress who came and chose to see to the women who came after me. Then when she did see to me, I was told that their service technician would have to test the drive before she could help me. I asked if this would take a while since I had another appointment. They both said yes... I asked the service technician if he could tell me how long, his response was No.

Both individuals were completely disinterested and unhelpful and worked slowly with no regard for my time. The Technician tried to explain that he was doing a complex testing i.e. he was plugging in the power and connecting to a laptop. He treated me like I was a complete idiot talking down to me. I am an IT professional, but that is irrelevant as his behaviour is unacceptable on any level.

He then confirmed the drive was indeed defective. He informed his manager. We were now waiting 20+ minutes. It took the manageress (Blessing) another 35 minutes to come back to see us. After which we were lead cross the shop to the Vodacom stand where she proceeded to use what looked like the vodacom system to BOOK the drive in. At this point she informed us the drive will not be returned for a refund. It is apparently store policy to send the drive to manufacturer before to decide if a refund is warranted. I was irate as I was never told of this and I would have to wait another 21 days or more for my refund of R3000.

Blessing the Manageress, then started the process of booking the drive in except she now required my personal information and again could not produce evidence of a statement of use of, of my personal information (POPI Act). She demanded for my ID number and when I refused she said she could not help me. I gave her my business card and she had problems reading the details and tried to put in random numbers to clear the mandatory text fields in the system. While we were waiting, we called the customer care and received the following reference number 78211.

By this time we had been in the shop for more than an hour. The mangeress then got distracted by an irate man who complained that he was trying to buy something but could not get one sales person to help since the men were busy catcalling to passing women at the door and the women were huddled around a nespresso machine. I believe the video footage for the 23 February 2019 from 12h00 to 13h15 will show this clearly.

At this point, I took my defective sea-gate drive and left. DION WIRED MENLYN your service staff are lazy, poorly trained, badly behaved, and unprofessional, and your disregard for the consumer protection laws is *******. I will never shop at Dion Wired ever again. I do however want my money back for the defective drive you sold me!
