Dion Wired Horror
So my horror starts with buying a laptop at Dion Wired in Cavendish square. I got a low spec laptop along with a 2TB harddrive, a portable router and a wireless mouse. The laptop was started up in store to make sure it works and I was off. The router and mouse never worked so i returned it the next day to be replaced. I only started using the laptop two weeks before my course was meant to start so I fired it up on January 5 so I could install the necessary software, battery was nearly drained so I put it on charge before I proceed. Next thing I know the device comes apart as I open it. The front bezel stuck to the hinges and the monitor lifts up along with the top cover. I have found this is a common design flaw of HP laptops and is well documented on their forums, which I found after the fact, unfortunately. I went back to the store a few days later and the manager shot me down with store policy and treated me like a **** telling me I will need to book it in to be checked by a trained technician which takes 21 days, but I will most likely need to pay to get it fixed since I brought it back after 30 days. I was fuming and my wife recognized she had to get me out if we had any chance of having a normal day out after. I phoned a few days later and was told I can take it to any branch and decided to take it to the Somerset Mall branch. The staff there were a whole lot more friendlier and approached me as I entered, a far cry from the Cavendish experience. I signed a piece of paper stating it would take them 21 days to get back to me and I was content with that thinking that it would be clear to a professional that it's a factory fault, BOY WAS I WRONG. I received a message stating that my laptop is ready for collection and I drove there the moment i had the chance, I got the laptop back in a worse state. In the 21 days It was gone it gained more than a few scratches and a huge patch of, what I can only imagine is glue residue between the top of the keyboard and the edge of the laptop. I was told that the store could not help me and I will need to contact HP, I did that in store and HP told me that they have no presence in South Africa and that a partner company handles their warranty claims, I should contact them. I was then told by the store rep that that's where the laptop was returned to initially and they demand payment for a repair. I would like to state that I have been belittled by the staff at Cavendish infront of my wife and kids, my claim that the problem was there before I got the device was never acknowledged even though 80% of the items I bought there that day does not work. I have the return receipts for the replaced devices to prove it. And, that even though my upcoming projects will require a 3D printer, I will rather find a different retailer to deal with when the time comes.
