Debit order ***** -Read this if it happened to you
I had a debit order go off my account last night for an amount of R99 by Digicash. They claim their client is Smart Select Marketing.

A debit order can be initiated by any third party, including *********. The bank will honour the debit order, as they assume that you have an agreement in place with the vendor. As it is a debit order, you cannot stop future payments. This can only be cancelled from the vendor's side, if you're lucky enough to get hold of them. The agreement (whether authorised or not) is between the vendor and yourself. The bank is not a party to the agreement.

To stop a future debit order will cost R45. However, these ********* are clever. In order to bypass this, they increase the amount to R129 for the following month's debit order. This will make the requested stop ineffective, as it did not meet the exact original R99 criteria. The following month, they increase the amount even further to R199. Each time these debit orders go off your account, go to the bank (within 30 days) to have it reversed. Eventually the ********* give up.

Report your case to the SAPS and Payments Association of SA (Pasa) for investigations to take place.
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We'll aim to assist in resolving your query as quickly as possible.
Please note that Digicash is a duly registered Third Party Payment Provider (TPPP) who facilitates debit order collections on behalf of various merchants.
The process is as follows:
o A consumer enters into an agreement with one of our merchants
o That merchant utilises DigiCash's software to collect funds from the consumer's account
o Digicash registers a unique assigned short name (ASN) with its sponsoring bank which the merchant must use when submitting debit orders
o The ASN, a reference number and Digicash's name will appear in your bank statement. This will help us to identify the merchant responsible for debiting your account
We would ask that you please contact us on *** with further details of the transaction. We will then be able to put you in direct contact with the company who asked us to collect these funds from you, and this can then be resolved.
